Using NYU SCPS Online

Editing Toolbar

The editing toolbar is available through many of the ePortfolio, Group, and Course features, including Wikis, Blogs, and course lessons.

print Print Printing allows you to print the contents of the editing window
preview Preview Preview provides you with a print preview of the contents of the editing window
find Find Find allows you to find or search for keywords within the contents of the editing window
spell check Spell Checker Spell check allows you to spell check the text of within the editing window
cut Cut Cut allows you to cut text from within the editing window to your clipboard
copy Copy Copy allows you to copy text from within the editing window to your clipboard
paste Paste Paste allows you to cut paste text from your clipboard to the editing window to your clipboard
paste as text Paste Plain Text Paste allows you to cut paste text as plain text/without formatting from your clipboard to the editing window to your clipboard
paste from Word Paste from Word Paste allows you to cut paste text from MS Word with all the formatting in place
paste as HTML Paste as HTML Allows you to cut text from a web page or other HTML document with all the formatting in place
clean up HTML Clean up HTML Presents a menu with multiple options to clean and remove tags from HTML formatted text
remove format Remove format Remove format allows you to remove the style formatting of text within the editing window.
undo Undo Undo, removes your previous actions within the editing window.
redo Redo Redo, undoes an undo.
insert hyperlink Insert Hyperlink Allows you to highlight text within the editing window to be hyperlinked to an external web site.
remove hyperlink Remove Hyperlink Removes all hyperlinks from the highlighted text.
Inserting a File Inserting/Uploading Files You can add links to as many documents as you wish and to any content area of Epsilen that features the above-pictured editing toolbar. Inside the content area you want to edit, select the Insert a file link icon.
insert image Insert Image Epsilen allows you to upload pictures, then insert that image into the content area. It is also possible to use an existing image located on the Web by inserting the full image URL.
You Tube Icon Insert YouTube Video
  • YouTube is an online Web site that provides access to video content posted by the YouTube community. In addition, it is a free space for you to post videos for your courses.
  • Try searching YouTube for videos that may complement your course content for a given lesson or activity.
  • Once you find a video that you would like to use, you can embed it in a lesson or a Custom content area of NYU SCPS Online: Epsilen.
  • Below is an image of the tool bar you will see in most areas of your online course This tool bar has a variety of text formatting options as well as options to embed images, links, and YouTube videos.
  • To embed a YouTube video, go to YouTube and identify the video you would like to embed. On the YouTube video page, you will see an area labeled Embed.
  • Simply copy the code from the Embed field.
  • Next, using the editing toolbar select YouTube.
  • This will launch a new window, which will prompt the user to paste in the embed code from YouTube.
  • Next, simply paste in the YouTube embed code and click ok. Finally, save your lesson, wiki, or custom tool.
smiley face Insert Smiley Face The smiley icon will allow you to add a small icon in your text. A dialog will pop up that allows you to select from a table of smiley icons.
special characters Insert Special Character The special characters button, allows you to enter special characters from a table. special characters
horizontal rule Insert a Horizontal Rule

Inserting a horizontal rule, inserts a horizontal bar between your content in the editing window.

A horizontal rule looks like this:
numbered listbulleted list Numbered and Bulleted Lists List items in the editing window can be formatted into numbered or bulleted lists.
indentoutdent Decrease and Increase Indent Text in the editing window can be indented.
font Change Font

font text color Change Text Color Clicking the down arrow and selecting a color will change highlighted text to that color. Clicking the button changes highlighted text to the last used color.
text color Change Background Color Clicking the down arrow and selecting a color will change highlighted text’s background to that color. Clicking the button changes highlighted text’s background to the last used color.

The text formatting options format text to Bold, Italic, or Underline
strikethrough Strikethrough Text Formatting You can also strikethrough text.
superscriptsubscript Superscript and Subscript Text Text such as equations may require the use of the superscript and subscript tools.
align leftalign centeralignright Left, Center, and Right Justify Text can be left, center, or right justifed within the editing window.
normal viewHTML viewpreview Normal View, HTML View, and Preview The editing window is by defaut displayed in normal view, which is similar to a work processor, and does not display underlying HTML code. To view the HTML code select the HTML button. All content can be coded within HTML or within the Normal view. Use the Preview button to check that completed work and inserted images/documents are displayed properly.
